Quarterly Islamic Finance Public Lecture IRCIEF 2015

2015 QUARTERLY ISLAMIC FINANCE PUBLIC LECTURE IRCIEF-IRTI :SUKUK MARKET DEVELOPMENT AND ISSUES

International Research Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) in collaboration with Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has organized the 2015 Quarterly Islamic Finance Public Lecture IRCIEF-IRTI on 17 September 2015 at Hassan Omar Lecture Hall, Academic Block 3, KUIS. The event was attended by more than 100 participants consisting of industry players, representatives of Islamic financial institutions, and students.

The public lecture entitled “Sukuk Market Development and Issues” was delivered by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi Omar, the Director General for Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah. He was the Dean of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), as well as Professor at the Department of Finance, Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences, IIUM. He was also the former Deputy Rector (Deputy Vice-Chancellor) in charge of Academic and Research from 2002 until 2008 and also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences at the same university from 1996 to early 2002. He obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees in Finance from Northern Illinois University, USA and PhD from Bangor University, Wales (UK).

The public lecture was moderated by one of the associate research fellows of IRCIEF, Associate Prof. Dr Husni Hassan. The program began with du’a recitation led by Ustaz Don Daniyal Don Biyajid and continued by the moderator chairing the session. The public lecture ended with a speech by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ab. Halim bin Tamuri, the Rector of KUIS thanking all participants for taking part in the event. He also expected a continuous cooperation between IRCIEF and IRTI in the future.

The Market Penetration of Islamic Banks: Trends and Challenges

International Research Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) in collaboration with Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) had organized the 2015 Quarterly Islamic Finance Public Lecture IRCIEF-IRTI on 29 April 2015 at Auditorium Said Ramadan Al-Buti, KUIS. The event was attended by more than 100 participants from various institutions of higher learning, representatives of Islamic financial instutions, government officials and students.

The public lecture entitled “The Market Penetration of Islamic Banks: Trends and Challenges” was delivered by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Rodney Wilson, the winner of IDB Prize in Islamic Banking and Finance 1435H/2014 in recognition of his contribution to the subject. He is an Emeritus Professor in the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF). Previously Professor Rodney Wilson has been involved in research and teaching in Islamic economics and finance for over 30 years and he founded the Durham University Islamic Finance Programme. Before joining INCEIF he was a Visiting Professor at the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies. He has authored 12 books and over 50 articles. His most recent books are Legal, Regulatory and Governance Issues in Islamic Finance, Edinburgh University Press, 2012 and Economic Development in the Middle East, Routledge, London and New York, 2013. The public lecture was moderated by the Chief Executive Officer, College of Islamic Studies Johor (MARSAH), Professor Dr. Mohamad @ Md. Som bin Sujimon.

The program began with the recitation of du’a led by Mr. Mohd Rofaizal bin Ibhraim and followed by opening speech by Mr. Kunrat Wirasubrata, Acting Director, IDB Regional Office, Kuala Lumpur. The program was officiated by Dr. Mokmin Basri, Deputy Rector (Student Development and Alumni) and in his speech he thanked all participants for participating in this event and expressed his hope to see the collaboration between IRCIEF and IRTI to continue in the future.
